BACK TO THE BEGINNING
“We don’t just want to play Black Sabbath – we want to feel Black Sabbath from the bottom of our hearts.” With this mission in mind, the American all-female formation Black Sabbitch returns to Z7 two years after their acclaimed Swiss debut, ready to transport us once again back to the 1970s with songs from the early days of the British metal pioneers.
Black Sabbitch are no ordinary tribute band. The four women from the USA have impressed even the most devoted Sabbath fans and earned the respect of critics and musicians alike. Sharon Osbourne personally invited them to open for Ozzy. They rocked the iconic Kiss Kruise as well as the legendary Cal Jam alongside Iggy Pop and Foo Fighters. Shortly afterwards, Dave Grohl shared photos of the band’s performance on his social media channels, writing: “We were mesmerized and couldn’t take our eyes off them.” By now, Black Sabbitch have become true festival favourites, regularly sharing stages with some of the world’s biggest acts and thrilling Black Sabbath fans with their intense club shows. Their setlists often vary, featuring both all-time classics and long-forgotten gems from the defining Ozzy era of the Birmingham legends. “We’re not just another tribute band – we are the female Black Sabbath,” says drummer Angie Scarpa with confidence. Formed in Los Angeles fourteen years ago, the band never set out to simply replicate Black Sabbath’s songs. “I’ve always been a huge fan of the band, but I didn’t want to just play covers in another boring ‘hey, we sound like the records’ kind of group. It had to feel right from the start – like what it must have been like to see and hear Black Sabbath in 1972.” And with their shows, the band consistently succeeds in transporting audiences straight back to the Seventies. With songs from the early years, when Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward set out from the West Midlands to conquer the world with their heavy, dark and groundbreaking sound. Black Sabbitch played their very first show in West Hollywood in summer 2013 and have been touring regularly across the USA ever since. In 2022, they expanded their activities to the UK, and in 2024 they performed at Wacken and played further dates across mainland Europe, including their Swiss debut at Z7. Diebuehrers.com wrote about their November 2024 show: “With strong stage presence and outstanding musical ability, they powerfully brought to life the dark and heavy sounds of songs like ‘War Pigs’ and ‘Children of the Grave’,” and “the audience celebrated every minute of this intense set.”
