TWIN GUITAR HEROES
They have long since become a Z7 staple: the legendary Wishbone Ash return once again to our venue to celebrate their unmistakable twin-guitar sound, which has influenced countless musicians around the world. Tireless bandleader Andy Powell has been travelling the globe with his band for 56 years, bringing fans the timeless Wishbone Ash classics live on stage.
On stage, he has lost none of his charisma or energy. Singer and guitarist Andy Powell is the last remaining founding member of Wishbone Ash, a band he co-founded back in 1969. Standing still is not in his vocabulary. To date, Powell and his band have released 23 studio albums, along with around 30 live recordings. No surprise, really, as Wishbone Ash have always been in a league of their own on stage – and that hasn’t changed even more than five and a half decades after the band’s formation. The musicians still cover around 30,000 miles every year to perform for fans all over the world. Over the decades, the band have explored a wide range of musical styles, from folk, blues and jazz to pedal-to-the-metal rock and even electronic influences. Yet no matter the style, Wishbone Ash’s trademark has always been – and remains – the unmistakable sound of their twin lead guitars, which have influenced bands such as Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Iron Maiden and Opeth, to name just a few. There is probably no other band that has taken the twin-guitar concept as far as Wishbone Ash. Today, the band’s signature guitar sound is carried by Powell and Mark Abrahams, who joined the group in 2017. Bassist Bob Skeat, a member for 28 years, and drummer Mike Truscott (since 2022) form a tight and powerful rhythm section. After all these years on the road, the quartet shows absolutely no signs of wear and tear, effortlessly bridging the gap between the band’s classic material and more recent songs in their live performances.
