LIMITLESS DIVERSITY
Rosalie Cunningham is regarded as one of the UK’s greatest musical talents. Classic Rock magazine raves: “If Kate Bush and The Beatles had a child together, it would be Rosalie Cunningham,” while Metal Hammer simply states: “Rosalie Cunningham is a rock star.” In October, the multifaceted artist brings her fascinating blend of rock, folk, prog, jazz, goth and pop to Switzerland.
Rosalie Cunningham is a true musical all-rounder. At the age of just 16, the British musician founded the psychedelic rock all-female quartet Ipso Facto in 2007, making waves with four acclaimed singles. She then worked as a backing vocalist and keyboard player for bands such as Magazine, The Last Shadow Puppets, Cathedral and These New Puritans. As a guitarist, she joined Willy Moon’s band and toured as support for Jack White. In 2011, Rosalie Cunningham launched the psychedelic band Purson before deciding to explore new directions again after six exciting years. Rosalie wrote countless songs that she began performing under her own name from 2019 onwards. Critical acclaim quickly followed, with her self-titled debut album landing on several European year-end best-of lists. Prog magazine even named her one of the ten greatest female musicians of all time, while readers voted her best female vocalist. Over the years, her music has become increasingly layered and sophisticated. Rather than relying on flashy effects, her songwriting captivates through its wide range of sounds and both vocal and instrumental excellence. Stylistically, the artist refuses to be boxed into one category. This is also evident on her latest release To Shoot Another Day, which blends psychedelic rock and metal with countless musical flirtations. Betreutesproggen.de wrote: “Despite all her compositional talent for making her music sound intricate or slightly jazzy without actually becoming jazz, it is the singer/songwriter’s voice that stands out the most. It is highly versatile, effortlessly shifting from almost whispered passages to raw power in a way few singers can achieve.” And Saitenkult.de asks: “Why would anyone not love this mix of rock, folk, prog, jazz, goth and pop – this psychedelic fusion of Jinx Dawson and Lana Lane? This psychedelic sound somewhere between music hall and Birmingham heaviness doesn’t need categorising. Rosalie Cunningham and her fellow musicians simply need to be heard.”
The Universe By Ear: With their fourth studio album, The Universe By Ear open the next chapter of their band history in September 2026. The Basel-based heavy psych trio combine the raw power of stoner rock with progressive experimentation, psychedelic soundscapes and expansive compositions. Crushing riffs meet atmospheric sounds, warm three-part harmonies and musical tension arcs that unfold their full impact live on stage. After a live break in 2025, The Universe By Ear return to the stage from summer 2026 onwards with new material and plenty of energy.
