The Roman Theatre of Augusta Raurica is the best-preserved ancient open-air theatre north of the Alps and has been a Z7 concert venue for many years. In 2014, Swiss Pink Floyd tribute band Crazy Diamond delivered one of the most impressive concert experiences ever staged here, followed by performances from artists such as Tangerine Dream, Nena, Mike & The Mechanics, Nick Mason and Beth Hart. Anyone who has experienced a concert in this 1,600-seat semicircular arena knows the unique atmosphere of this historic setting. In 2026, Z7 returns and presents Augusta Raurica – Live in Concert with Crazy Diamond, Apocalyptica and Eluveitie as top-tier headliners.

APOCALYPTICA – PLAYS METALLICA LIVE

Thirty years ago, a completely unknown band from Finland emerged on the music scene and immediately caught the attention of both classical and metal fans alike. With the album Apocalyptica Plays Metallica by Four Cellos, these classically trained musicians from the far north unleashed something entirely new on stage. Headbanging while playing the cello – the music world had never seen anything like it. The concept was continuously expanded: soon, concerts featured three cellos and a drum kit. Guest vocalists joined in, other bands were covered and eventually original material was composed. In 2024, however, the band returned to their first great love with the release of Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2. The album continues a journey that began back in 1996, when cellists from the world-renowned Sibelius Academy in Helsinki created their symphonic homage to metal giants Metallica. The tenth Apocalyptica album holds several surprises, including a breathtaking reinterpretation of one of Metallica’s greatest musical moments: “One” from the landmark album …And Justice For All. In addition, James Hetfield and Rob Trujillo can also be heard on the new Apocalyptica record. With this release, Apocalyptica have once again surpassed themselves. On the current tour, much to the delight of fans, the band is performing exclusively Metallica songs. Unleashed cello metal with a best-of Metallica set – this promises a wild summer night at Augusta Raurica.

Monkey3: For more than twenty years, they have been one of the flagship acts of the European stoner, psychedelic and space rock scene. The instrumental band from Lausanne creates atmospheric sonic journeys with massive riffs, hypnotic keyboard layers and progressive soundscapes – all without the need for vocals. With their current album “Welcome To The Machine”, Monkey3 once again demonstrate their flair for cinematic compositions and cosmic vastness. Numerous appearances at renowned festivals such as Hellfest, Roadburn and Desertfest, as well as tours across Europe, have earned the four musicians a reputation as one of the most impressive live bands in their genre.

Oakhead stand for instrumental rock with character. The Basel-based trio combines heavy stoner riffs, psychedelic soundscapes and driving grooves into a sound that is both powerful and atmospheric. The band’s trademark is its extended improvisations, making every live show a unique experience. Oakhead are never afraid to experiment musically and regularly collaborate with artists from a wide range of genres. With their debut album “X.O.”, released in 2024, the three musicians have firmly established themselves as one of the leading names in the Swiss psychedelic and stoner rock scene, captivating audiences with intense performances full of energy and musical freedom.
