THE RETURN OF THE WOLVES

Four years after their last Swiss concert, pagan/melodic death metallers Varg return to Z7 for an exclusive show – with a new studio album and the most elaborate live production of their career. At their only concert in Switzerland in 2027, the wolves will present new songs and highlights from their extensive back catalogue. Viking metallers Asenblut will join them as special guests with their brand-new album “Urgewalt”.

Varg last visited us in November 2023 with their legendary Wolfsfest. This was followed by a long concert break for their Swiss fans. But in spring 2027, the successful pagan pack will finally return to the stage. And the musicians will not be coming back to Pratteln empty-handed, as their eighth studio album will be released before the start of the tour. The band was founded in Coburg, Bavaria, in 2005. The name “Varg” comes from Old Norse and means “wolf”. Stylistically, the wolves move between pagan, Viking, black and melodic death metal. Fittingly, the band themselves describe their style as “Wolf Metal”. Themes such as Norse mythology, a connection to folk traditions and nature, and unity run throughout their music. After more than twenty years as a band, tours across Europe and North America and numerous appearances at major European festivals such as Wacken Open Air, Party.San and Metalfest, Varg undoubtedly belong to the forefront of the pagan metal scene. And even after all this time, Freki (vocals), Fylgja (vocals), Morkai (guitar) and the more recent additions Ulvar (guitar, bass) and Rohgarr (drums) still know how to surprise. In May 2026, the first live album in the band’s history will be released. Varg say of the captivating concert recording, which offers a varied journey through their entire discography: “With ‘Live at Wolfszeit Festival 2024’, we immortalise one of the most intense moments of our career. Fire, thunderous choirs and pure emotion merge into an atmosphere that sweeps everything along with it. This album is your entry into the innermost circle of the wolf pack – and the answer to a question we always ask together: Are you with us? We are with you!” This scenario will be repeated at Z7 in April 2027, when the band returns with familiar hits, a fresh new studio album and the most bombastic show they have ever presented. “Our live events are more than just a concert. They are a ritual, a reunion, a celebration for everyone who has been part of our journey for years – and for those who want to become part of it.”

Asenblut will bring an additional dose of Viking metal power to Z7 as special guests. The band from Göttingen comes to Pratteln with their brand-new album “Urgewalt”, with which they are currently conquering the German album charts. For many years, the band has combined crushing metal with Norse mythology and has become one of the distinctive names on the German pagan and Viking metal scene. Together with Varg, Asenblut promise an evening packed with mighty riffs, epic melodies and concentrated live energy.
